Welcoming Cockapoo Puppies: Our Heartwarming Journey with Milo and Luka

We’ve always talked about getting a puppy, but when my kids were little, we found out they were allergic to dogs. Major bummer, right? Especially during the lockdown when it felt like everyone and their grandma had a pet. Everyone but us. I felt like the ultimate party pooper having to be the voice of reason and continuously tell my kids “No, we can’t get a puppy”.

But one day in December 2021, my son comes to me with, “Can we get one of those hypoallergenic puppies?” Got me thinking, you know?

We went on a deep dive online and found out about Cockapoos – hypoallergenic gems! They are a crossbreed between Cocker Spaniels and Poodles. This unique mix results in cockapoo puppies that inherit the best traits from both parent breeds. They are known for their curly or wavy coats, expressive eyes, and playful nature.

The dogs are known for being great companions and excellent family pets. They have an affectionate disposition and thrive on human attention. Cockapoos are intelligent dogs that love learning new tricks and commands.

We found a puppy not too far away and bombarded the breeder with messages, mainly me worrying about the kids’ allergies. But we got lucky, the breeder agreed, that if it didn’t work out, and one of the kids developed allergies, we could return the pup.

Cuteness Overload: Meeting Our First Puppy – Milo!

Cockapoo Puppies

Next day? My hubby’s birthday! Best gift ever, right? So, we picked up the kids early from school and hit the road to pick up our fluffy friend.

We were so pumped that day, doing lots of research. I even went to the pet store at the crack of dawn, begging the staff for newbie advice. When the kids hopped in the car, they were armed with lists of potential names for our newest family member. My son even crowdsourced on social media. And guess what? Milo won the name game!

24 hours after the idea first came up, our family had a new furry member! Milo’s first day at home? Hilarious chaos! Poor puppy couldn’t walk on tile floors, he kept on falling, and we panicked, thinking we’d have to take him back. But he figured it out, and bonus: no sneezy reactions!

Those first few weeks, though? Total whirlwind. We were out every two hours, even in the dead of night. Someone was always sleeping on the couch to sneak him out without waking the whole family. Taking him out in December? Let’s just say it wasn’t a picnic, but the joy he brought? Priceless!

Ever heard of a “Velcro dog”? Yeah, neither had I till Milo. He was my shadow 24/7. Anxious little dude, but man, did we love him. Fast forward seven months, and my daughter drops, “Wouldn’t Milo love a buddy? Then he won’t bug Mom as much.” Genius, right? So off we went to find another furry friend.

The Family is Complete: Meeting Our Second Puppy – Luka!

Cockapoo Puppies

We found a breeder with the most adorable Cockapoo puppies, and guess what? As soon as it was possible, we were on the way to get our second puppy. The name Luka popped into our heads before we even got there. We wanted an  Italian vibe, just like Milo, and remembered loving the city of Lucca in Tuscany, Italy (that we just LOVED!) when we visited a few years back. Perfect!

Adjusting to Luka was a breeze, like welcoming a second kid. Even though we took them out every two hours at first, Luka slept through the night from day one, and everything just seemed easier, because we knew what to do!

Milo and Luka, they’re like peanut butter and jelly – different but perfect together. They don’t play much with each other, but they spend 24 hours a day right next to each other, and if one of them happens to walk away, the other one follows. Now, instead of one Velcro dog, I’ve got two!

I can say that Milo and Luka have enhanced our lives beyond belief since their arrival. Having dogs as part of our family makes us spend much more time together. We go on family walks and hang out while playing with the dogs daily. They’re my sidekicks, spreading joy and fuzzy cuddles wherever they go! 🐾
